Uniqlo jeans fit guide and a little bit more

Uniqlo markets mostly basic garments, more basic than gap. However, it successfully made them fashionable. Why? It is the material. By providing less styles, Uniqlo, I guess, has greater negotiating power with the manufacturers (in China). Uniqlo orders in large amount. By doing so, it's possible to re-balance the cost structure so that most of the money is spent on material. That's why you can get a good v-neck or crew neck or cardigan sweater made of merino wool, lamb's wool or cashmere under 40/60 bucks. The premium quality and the texture are truly fashion (in other words, close to those used in designer brands - I'm not talking about those XYZ jeans lines).

Similar to those comfy sweaters, Uniqlo has employed same strategy at jeans. They offer less sizes. In US, only even waist sizes are avaiable. In asia, only 34 inseam is available. But they are good.

The design is minimum, the same as A.P.C.. No pattern on back pockets. No crazy broken-in or distress. You only need to worry about size and of course fit:

This is not meant to be a complete fit guide.

Uniqlo denotes fits by one letter and following 3 digits, as in S001.

S - Straight Leg
B - Boot Leg
T - Tapered Leg

000 - Lowest rise; skinny fit through thighs.
001 - Lower rise; slim fit through thighs.
002 - Regular rise; Regular fit.

For example, T000 is somewhere between Levi's 511 and Levi's 510. S001 is somewhat like Levi's 511, but has straight legs (a litter slimmer than 514, tho). B002 is regular boot-cut jeans.

How many types of fits are there? 3*3=9? Probably not, coz it at least does not make sense to me to make a tapered leg regular fit jeans, say T002. The most usual fits, which uniqlo has in each store, are S001 - Slim Straight, S002 - Regular Straight, T000 and B002.

I personally have a pair of Black-washed S-001 and a pair of Blue selvage T-000. They are better than regular levis and comparable to capital E line. I'm not gonna say they are comparable to A.P.C, nudie, A.C.N.E. etc. Hope this helps.
